Oxidative stress and inflammation are established as common pathologies behind a broad range of diseases (e.g. cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s etc.), that affect millions of people around the world. Today, the health care industry allocates tremendous amounts of resources on reliably detecting the degree of oxidative stress and inflammation. To reduce the amount of resources needed, fast, cheap and reliable oxidative stress and inflammation assessment methods are needed. Eicosanoids, namely prostaglandins and isoprostanes, are metabolites of arachidonic acid available in mammalian body in both healthy and disease status. They are now regarded as the most reliable biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation.
Our service laboratory originates from 1996 at Uppsala University, Sweden, where unique antibodies were raised and specific radioimmunoassays developed especially for prostaglandins. The laboratory has successfully provided assays of prostaglandins and isoprostanes to researchers around the world since then (see selected publications). The current Pro Ox service laboratory was established in 2015, with the aim to provide the same evidence-based and reliable assay facilities to investigators from academic-, industrial academic-, drug- and other research institutes and around the world.
